Mistakes are stepping stones.

Dear Tiger Families,

At Benton Harbor Area Schools, we believe that mistakes aren't signs of failure. They are actually biological catalysts for the brain to grow. Research shows that when a student makes an error, the brain actually shifts into a high-gear learning mode to build stronger neural pathways.

Because we see mistakes as stepping stones rather than setbacks, our classrooms are safe spaces where students feel secure to be themselves and try new things. This foundation allows us to provide better feedback, ensuring students understand where they went wrong, "why" and the specific strategies needed to avoid similar errors in the future. Ultimately, by instilling a growth mindset, we teach our students that their brains are literally designed to learn from mistakes, empowering them to embrace every challenge as an opportunity to improve.

When we embrace these moments, mistakes transform from sources of anxiety into genuine opportunities for self-discovery. Thank you for your continued partnership in helping our Tigers grow.

This is how we build Excellence in Every Tiger.

With gratitude,

Dr. Simone Griffin
